Bid to win Hermit Crabs - Banksy Graffiti Art!
Artist: Banksy.
Title: Hermit Crabs - Banksy Graffiti Art.
Year created: 2021.
Medium: Mohawk #115 Fine Art Paper with 5 to 9 colors of pantone ink.
Edition: Numbered Limited Edition of 80/300.
Description of piece:
Location: Corner of Acklam and Portobello Road, London, UK. Dimension: 36” x 24” Banksy uses humor and irony to critique housing inequality and the commercialization of shelter. Like hermit crabs competing for shells, people struggle for housing, where access depends more on wealth than need. This piece shows crabs on a rocky shoreline, some without shells, while one occupies a large conch beside a “Luxury Rentals Only” sign. The sign highlights exclusivity, mirroring real-world gentrification and economic disparity. By applying a human concept to crabs, Banksy mocks how even basic shelter has become a privilege rather than a necessity. Banksy’s Graffiti Art is the most comprehensive official photographic record of the artist’s work. Photographers documented Banksy’s pieces within hours of completion, using large-format cameras to capture their strategic placement and interaction with surroundings. Over the years, these curated images formed the exclusive Forever Collection of high-quality prints. Each photographer was compensated for their work, retaining full copyright ownership. This print is produced on Mohawk #115 Fine Art Paper with 5 to 9 Pantone ink colors, embossed with the Banksy’s Graffiti Art official logo, and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
Artist bio:
Banksy is an anonymous graffiti artist who may have been born in Bristol, England. He came to notice as a freehand graffiti artist whose art is on publicly visible surfaces such as walls and self-built physical prop pieces. He is known for his anti-authoritarian art, often done in public places. Banksy merged graffiti art with installation and performance art. The “street” is where Banksy made the world take notice. Each work was done on the fly, creeping around in the dark, getting paint on his hands and mud on his denims, carefully avoiding the police and the public.
