This is an original art piece, handmade by the artist for the USTA’s Black Lives To The Front Original Art Exhibit at the 2020 US Open. This piece was displayed in the front row seats of Arthur Ashe Stadium at the 2020 US Open.
Rising from the Blue is about Black women beginning to gain the confidence, appreciation, and love that they didn’t have before. They are rising from the sadness that was brought upon them from years of trying to conform to a standard that was opposite of their natural selves. They are finally beginning to see themselves as princesses, heroes, and role models that others can look up to.”… Sevah Darbouze
