Richard Nixon was known for the rarity of hand-signed documents. During his presidency, Nixon's staff commonly used an autopen or rubber stamp for signing letters and documents. This highly collectible vintage 1972 Republican National Convention Official Program publication has been hand-signed by President Richard Nixon, a rare signature from Nixon during his first term as President of the United States. It has been signed on the front cover, within the white stripe of the flag design, in pen.
The publication measures 11" in height x 8-3/8" width x 5/8" thickness.
Richard Nixon's signature has been examined and authenticated by PSA/DNA Authentication, and the publication is accompanied by a Full Letter Certification of Authenticity from PSA/DNA; the authentication process incorporates permanently marking the item with proprietary invisible ink containing a patented strand of synthetic DNA which will fluoresce under a calibrated laser.
Distributed to delegates at the 1972 RNC, the publication features 288 interior pages— a zeitgeist of Nixon's first term as President, current social and political issues, Nixon's legacy and achievements, and more. It includes feature stories, pages of color and black & white photographs, and a table of contents that in itself provides insight to the critical issues on the agenda at the RNC. In addition are pages of advertisements from donors, both historically fascinating and contemporarily relevant.
The 1972 RNC was held from August 21 - August 23, 1972 at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Miami Beach. It nominated President Richard M. Nixon and Vice President Spiro T. Agnew for reelection. The convention was chaired by then-U.S. House Minority Leader and future Nixon successor Gerald Ford. It was the fifth time Nixon had been nominated on the Republican ticket as either its vice-presidential (1952 and 1956) or presidential candidate (1960 and 1968). The Nixon-Agnew ticket won the presidential election.
Richard Milhous Nixon (1913 – 1994) was the 37th President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974 when he became the only U.S. president to resign the office. Nixon had previously served as a U.S. Representative and Senator from California and as the 36th Vice President of the United States from 1953 to 1961. Nixon's resignation followed the 1973 resignation of Spiro Agnew from the office of Vice President; upon Nixon's resignation, his presidency was succeeded by his appointed Vice-President, Gerald Ford (1913 – 2006), who then assumed the position of 38th President of the United States, serving from 1974 to 1977.
