Bid to win a Game of Thrones Iron Throne replica by Aaron Stevenson, Leah Ramillano & Rob Tintoc.
This one of a kind sculpture measures at 84" H at its tallest point x 54” at its widest point with a base measuring at 42" W x 42" D.”
This is a full scale replica of The Iron Throne from the hit HBO Series Game of Thrones. Unlike the throne for which it is based, this replica is not forged of a thousand swords melted under the breath of Balerion the Black Dread, but instead a plywood base structure dressed in around two-hundred and fifty swords made from 1/2" bender board and PVC sheets.
The seat and back panel are made mostly of bender board hand cut and beveled to replicate sword blades. The back fan and several of the swords draping the arms and wrapping around the sides are made of PVC sheets cut on a CNC machine from computer drafted sword shapes that were hand beveled and decorated then melted to shape and curve. Several of the back rest swords are made of enhanced plastic prop swords integrated into the aforementioned fabricated blades. Some hand sculpted Bondo gives the bend of the seat swords stability and rigidity for a practical seat base.
The full throne is painted in two layers of a base primer and adhesion promoter followed by an iron spray color. Scenic painters then hand detailed each blade for an authentic replication of the ancient iron swords that compose the famous throne.
Though this chair does not offer any great comforts, as Robert Baratheon once said of the it's original, it is much light than a throne forged of iron is likely to be; coming in at around two hundred pounds, if not a little less. This makes this Iron Throne the perfect addition to your collection or your living room for your viewing pleasure of the final season of Game of Thrones.
Aaron Stevenson is a carpenter with a very strong appreciation for all things in the film and literature worlds of fantasy and science fiction. He has always taken great joy in fabricating costumes and props from his favorite titles, including his first Darth Vader costume for which he used hot glue and a frozen dinner tray to create a chest plate. Luckily, since then he has learned new techniques through set construction and stagecraft to find unique solutions for creating a variety of set pieces, costumes, and props. He works as both an actor and a manager of construction projects much like this Iron Throne Replica.
