Everywhere you look you will find Mr. Palmer’s touch: in the course design, on the grounds and facilities, on the menu, and in the memorabilia, awards and tournament hardware that appear at every turn.
Palmer and his siblings were raised in a small house next to what is today the 5th tee at Latrobe Country Club. LCC is where the young golf legend’s values and character were shaped, working long hours with his father, Milfred “Deacon” Palmer, the club’s superintendent and later its head pro. This is where Deacon taught a young Arnie how to grip a golf club, putting Palmer’s small hands on the club and telling him, “now don’t you ever change that.” This is where it all began, and this is where you can have one of America’s most authentic and satisfying golf experiences—with the top level of service and hospitality for which LCC is known.
GOLF
The course record is 60. Arnie holds it. As you step onto the first tee you’ll notice the four-sided gothic clock, gifted by Rolex to Mr. Palmer. On the 2nd, you’ll test your aim on a hole that Arnie made six holes in one - all in his birth month of September! At the 5th fairway, you might notice a line of pines planted by Arnie himself. On the 18th, you’ll find a tree, once stuck by lighting, now hand-carved into an image of “Deke” Palmer, Arnold’s father, who once groomed these fairways. The course layout sports 18 holes of mostly bent grass tees, fairways, and greens. From the championship tees, the course has a course rating of 72.5 with a slope of 139. The white tees measure 6,110 yards and have a rating of 70.5 with a slope of 135. The Club features a large fleet of E-Z-Go golf carts, cart paths, a practice putting green, driving range as well as a fully stocked Pro Shop.
