During his playing career, Doug received many honors including: All American at Boston College, 1984 College Football Player of the Year and Heisman Trophy Winner. He is perhaps best known for the Boston College v. Miami game on in which his "Hail Mary" pass won the game for BC 47-45. It is considered among the greatest moments in college football and American sports history. Flutie played in the Canadian Football League for 8 years, where he was a marquee attraction, being named the league's Most Outstanding Player an unprecedented six times. Within the United States, Doug played a total of 21 professional seasons. He played in 92 career NFL games, including 66 as a starter. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 1998, following a season in which he won Comeback Player of the Year honors from the Associated Press and Pro Football Weekly. In just 10 starts that season, he threw an NFL career high 20 touchdown passes and led the Bills to the playoffs. In fact, Flutie would be the last quarterback to bring the Bills to the postseason over the next 17 years. Before he announced his retirement he was a quarterback for the New England Patriots where on On New Year's Day 2006, he kicked the first "drop kick" for an extra point in the NFL since 1942! In addition to calling college football games for NBC, Doug appeared on Dancing With The Stars, has a video game named after him (Doug Flutie’s Maximum Football) and plays drums in The Flutie Brothers Band. Plus, last year, in a celebrity football game, Flutie pinned WWE wrestler R-Truth to briefly claim the WWE’s 24/7 Championship belt.
