"I’ve lived a very privileged life. Although I experienced years of abuse and went through really tough times, I need to say how lucky I’ve been. The abuse that I experienced happens everywhere, everyday to so many of us. But frequently, abused individuals (especially children!!!) are also experiencing other multiplied injustices or threats to their daily survival too. I was never discriminated against because of my skin color. I was never caught in a devastating society-leveling natural disaster that made me wonder where my next meal or medical aid was going to come from. I reached for music and writing as subconscious therapy when I was young and even though it sometimes was used to hurt me along the way, I was still allowed and enabled to pursue these things. Others are never given this outlet. Then, in my moments of greatest need, I jumped and the net appeared. I took a step, people showed up. Not everyone has that experience. Some people take the chance, they speak their truth and no one is there to listen or believe. Many times, the people that need the most aid, the most professional help and support, don’t have the access or the resources it takes and therefore have to go on surviving first and healing later - if ever. It can also be hard to know who to trust and where to start in recovery and that’s why truly good organizations are so important. I will forever want to be finding ways to share the resources and privileges that I’ve been given. It will be a lifelong purpose of mine and if I can use my music or story or time to help, I count it my honor and duty. I have such an opportunity coming up in Nashville at 3rd & Lindsley on September 5th. It’s a fundraiser put on by some dear, truth-warrior friends of mine to bring professional trauma therapy and recovery support to a group of children in Haiti through the Mission Of Truth Organization. ♥️ I will be playing a few songs and sharing my support and I would encourage you to come and participate if you can."
