Elvis A. Presley’s Lockheed JetStar 1329
The premier jet of its time, the Lockheed’s JetStar was a must-have for A-list celebrities, VIPs, and high-powered dignitaries all over the world. And on December 22, 1976, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself, Elvis Presley, purchased the luxurious model from OMNI Aircraft Sales Inc. for a very pricey sum of $840,000. It would be the third aircraft to join his fleet.
The 1329 Lockheed JetStar was a prize amongst a collection that included a custom Convair 880, also named “Lisa Marie” or “Hound Dog 1”, and a second JetStar known as “Hound Dog 2”.
These airplanes were designed to help Elvis manage a busy touring schedule and were used to transport the singer, his TCB band, backup groups, Col. Tom Parker, as well as Elvis’ closest friends known as the “Memphis Mafia”. Elvis even kept several pilots on retainer to fly him out to venues or meet fans at a moment’s notice.
Able to seat up to nine guests, the original JetStar featured a wood-paneled cabin, red velvet upholstered furniture, and gold-finished hardware. There were six plush chairs that swiveled and reclined, a loveseat, and entertainment system with television, RCA VCR player, and headphone audio controls at every seat. The galley offered a meal-prep area with Kenmore microwave and beverage dispenser, lavatory with vanity space, and additional storage areas.
Elvis’ jet was sold to a Saudi Arabian company in 1977, and then moved to the Roswell International Air Center (ROW) in New Mexico, where it was stored for decades. In 2023, it was sold to Jimmy’s World where it has been revived and is once again fit for a King.
Lockheed JetStar 1329 Details
Lockheed introduced the popular model in September 1957—the same month RCA released Elvis’ single “Jailhouse Rock.” There were only 202 JetStar airplanes produced by Lockheed, making this truly one-of-a-kind.
