Bruce H. Newberg is an award winning Casting Director with extensive experience in film, television and theater. He began his casting career at Walt Disney Studios as a Casting Executive where he supervised the films Blame It On The Bellboy starring Dudley Moore, The Hand That Rocks The Cradle starring Anabella Sciorra, Julianne Moore, Rebecca DeMornay, Marrying Man starring Kim Basinger & Alec Baldwin, Run starring Patrick Dempsey and Arachnophobia starring John Goodman. After leaving Disney, he cast several dozen independent films including The Sisters (Maria Bello, Elizabeth Banks, Tony Goldwyn, Chris O’Donnell, Mary Stuart Masterson), Elvis Has Left The Building (Kim Basinger, John Corbett), Walking Across Egypt (Ellen Burstyn), The Cherry Orchard (Charlotte Rampling, Alan Bates, Gerard Butler, Melanie Lynskey), Just Write (Jeremy Piven, Sherilyn Fenn), Lovelife (Carla Gugino, Peter Krause, Saffron Burrows, Jon Tenney), The Maker (Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Mary Louise Parker), Spawn (John Leguizamo), Zach & Reba (Brittany Murphy, Debbie Reynolds) and When The Party's Over (Sandra Bullock).
Bruce is probably best known for having lured Kyra Sedgwick to television for The Closer. He then cast Major Crimes, the spin off of THE CLOSER starring Mary McDonell. He also cast the CW show Hellcats starring Aly Michaelka and Ashley Tisdale. Other TV Series include The Class (Sam Harris, Lizzy Caplan, Jason Ritter, Lucy Punch, Jesse Tyer Ferguson), 20 Good Years (John Lithgow, Jeffrey Tambor), Trust Me (Eric McCormack, Tom Cavenagh, Monica Potter), State of Mind (Lili Taylor) and the pilot of Emily Owens, M.D. starring Mamie Gummer. Also for television: Holiday Spin (Ralph Macchio, Karen Olivo) for Lifetime, The Tenth Circle (Kelly Preston, Ron Eldard) for Lifetime and Creature Features (HBO) starring Dan Aykroyd, Randy Quaid, Rufus Sewell and Nastasjia Kinski.
Bruce recently cast Stalkers, Mow for Lifetime starring Drea De Mateo, Jodi Lyn O’Keefe & Mena Suvari and Bad Teacher, a half hour comedy for Sony and CBS starring Ari Graynor, Sara Gilbert, Kristin Davis, David Alan Grier and Ryan Hansen. He is currently casting the second season of the hit TNT series, Major Crimes.
Bruca has also been involved in the Los Angeles and New York Theaters. Most recently The Pee-Wee Herman Show, Les Miserables (Lea Michele, John Lloyd Young, Brian Stokes Mitchell), The Sound of Music (Melissa Erico, John Schneider, Rachel York, Jeffrey Tambor), Camelot (Jeremy Irons, Melissa Erico, James Barbour), Sunset Boulevard (Betty Buckley, Len Cariou), Mame (Michelle Lee, Christine Ebersole), My Fair Lady (John Lithgow, Roger Daltrey, Melissa Erico, Rosemary Harris), Showboat (Douglas Sills, Alice Ripley) and The Music Man (Eric McCormack, Kristin Chenoweth). For the Reprise Theater Company - Hair (Sam Harris, Steven Weber, Marisa Jaret Winokur), Pippin (Sam Harris, Michael Arden), Company (Chris Siebert, Judith Light), Follies (Vicki Carr, Patty Duke, Donna McKechnie, Harry Groener, Bob Gunton), She Loves Me (Rebecca Luker, Scott Waara), On The 20th Century (Carolee Carmello, Bob Gunton, Mimi Hines), Babes in Arms (Jodi Benson, Joey McIntyre), Brigadoon (Marin Mazzie, Jason Daniele), ASSASSINS (Kevin Chamberlin, Patrick Cassidy, Annie Golden), Merrily We Roll Along (Teri Hatcher, Hugh Panero, Kevin Chamberlin). Additionally, Bruce cast Ten Commandments (Val Kilmer, Adam Lambert), Big River (at Deaf West, The Taper and then Broadway), Mack and Mabelat the Lincoln Center (Jerry Orbach, Sutton Foster, Sam Harris, Karen Ziemba, Douglas Sills and The Rockettes), Happy Days directed by Garry Marshall at The Falcon and a number of shows at The Pasadena Playhouse and The Geffen.
Bruce has been nominated 22 times for the Artios Award in Casting, winning twice for his work on Big River and Company. He was educated at Tufts University (B.A. in Drama) and U.C.L.A. Film School (M.F.A.in screenwriting). Prior to his casting career he created the TBS series Down To Earth with Sam Harris which ran for 104 episodes. He is a member of The Television Academy, The Writers Guild, The Casting Society of America and The Teamsters.
