The daily itinerary is as follows;
Day 1: ARRIVAL KIGALI
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed to a VIP lounge while we clear your luggage through immigration. You will thereafter meet a Songa Africa representative for a short briefing and trip introduction and then transfer on a 20 min drive to the Retreat for check-in. Dinner will be on your own arrangement, though we are happy to recommend depending on your arrival time. You will then spend the night at The Retreat Hotel.
Day 2: AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK
At 7:00 am, depart from Kigali to Akagera National Park by your driver guides (3.5hrs drive). Akagera National Park is located in the east of Rwanda along the border with Tanzania. It is named after the Akagera River that flows along its eastern boundary and feeds into a labyrinth of lakes. The rolling hills of Acacia woodland coupled with scattered grassland and swamp-fringed lakes along the watercourse combine to create a park of breathtaking beauty. You would arrive Magashi Classic Camp in time for lunch. You will spend the night at Magashi Classic Camp.
Day 3: MAGASHI GAME DRIVE EXPERIENCE
In the morning Game Drive, you will be joined by other guests in a shared safari vehicle and embark on your game drive with expert guides. You will get a great opportunity to come close to animals such as elephants, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and antelopes as well as discovering the birdlife found around the shore. You will spend the night at Magashi Classic Camp.
Day 4: AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK/KIGALI
After breakfast, you will check out and embark on a morning Game Drive after which you will head back to Kigali. You will visit the Rwanda Rocks Music School - The school your donation benefited, and you will be given a private recital by the Rwanda Rocks students. After that, you will have an opportunity to explore Kigali local markets and nightlife. Dinner is recommended at the renowned Repub Lounge before checking in to The Retreat Hotel for another night. You will spend the night at The Retreat Hotel.
Day 5: HISTORICAL KIGALI/VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
The Kigali Genocide Memorial exists as a permanent memorial for victims of the genocide in 1994. It deals with a topic of international importance, with far-reaching significance, and is designed to engage and challenge an international visitor base. Here you will be able to visit the 3 permanent exhibitions, the largest of which documents the genocide in 1994 and pay tribute to the victims of the genocide. 12:00pm Lunch at Mille Collines Hotel is included. After lunch, you will do a brief city tour after which board on a 3hour scenic drive to Musanze, Kinigi and check in at Amakoro Songa Lodge and spend the night.
Day 6: GOLDEN MONKEY TREKKING
Early breakfast and then head to the park for your Golden Monkey trekking experience. The Golden Monkey is a local subspecies of the widespread Sykes Monkey, also known as the “Blue Monkey” and is endemic to the high-altitude forests of the Volcanoes National Park area. The monkeys are playful and inquisitive and often spend their time leaping from bamboo branches or frolicking on the forest floor. You will spend the night at Amakoro Songa Lodge.
Day 7: GORILLAS IN THE MIST EXPERIENCE
Once again you will have an early breakfast, departing for the park headquarters for briefing and being assigned into Gorilla groups complete with rangers. You will then trek through the Volcanoes National Park for a face to face encounter with the majestic Mountain Gorillas. Volcanoes National Park protects the steep slopes of this magnificent mountain range - home of the rare mountain gorilla - and the rich mosaic of montane ecosystems, which embrace evergreen and bamboo forest, open grassland, swamp and heath. The high point of the trek will be spending an hour with the remarkably peaceful gorillas despite their size and appearance, as they go about their daily life: feeding, playing, resting, grooming and raising their young. You will spend the night at Amakoro Songa Lodge.
Day 8: KIGALI BY NIGHT EXPERIENCE
After breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and go on a 3 hour drive to Kigali. After lunch at the Kigali Java House, you will go on an afternoon city tour where you can visit places like the Kimironko local market. You will also go on a souvenir shopping expedition, where you can buy souvenirs, among other things. Afterwards, you will be transferred to the Retreat for overnight. Dinner will be on your own arrangement, though we are happy to recommend nice restaurants around Kigali. You will spend the night at The Retreat Hotel.
Day 9: DEPARTURE
After breakfast, you will check out and be transferred to the Airport for your departure flight and that will mark the end of your trip to Rwanda.
